Autumn Newsletter 2018 (Little Acorns)

Our first half term is over! A huge well done to all our new children who have settled so brilliantly. It is lovely to see friendships forming and each child’s unique personality shining through.

We have had some great activities and games this half term including large-scale painting, rambling in the woods, rainbow writing, building rockets to the moon, HUGE amounts of role-play and ‘what’s the time Mr Wolf’ in the garden. Everybody has learnt heaps and will need a good rest next week…!

Garden Area Improvements

We have been working hard to develop our garden area and enhance our provision to include a range of natural/open-ended resources. The children have adored using logs, tyres and tree-stumps to build and climb on as well as guttering to roll cars and balls down. This is a very effective way to encourage creativity, team work, investigative skills, problem solving, imagination and something we would like to continue to develop.

If you or anybody you know could get hold of logs, tyres, pipes, scaffold planks, tarpaulin, steering wheels etc we would love to know! All resources will be thoroughly risk assessed. Please speak to Emily or Jo for more information about this.

Child Development Meetings

Thank you to all parents for attending your child’s development meetings. We hope these gave you a good insight into your child’s development and what they have been enjoying this term. Your feedback is always welcome; please use our email address above.

We would be so grateful if you could like and follow our Facebook page. Here there is an option to ‘recommend’ us which we would love for you to do. Search ‘Little Acorns Pre-School and Nursery, Southwater, West Sussex’.

Sign of the Week

Our ‘sign of the week’ has been a huge success, the children are picking them up so rapidly and beginning to use their signs during play. We have learnt ‘play’, ‘share’, ‘please and thank you’, ‘brother and sister’, ‘eat and drink’, ‘friends’ and lots more. Ask your child to show you this fantastic skill.

Winter Clothing & Wellies

As we are now in the depths of Autumn and pushing into Winter, please remember wet-weather clothing, changes of clothes and welly-boots. We will be out in all weathers as long as the children are appropriately dressed.

Congratulations to Katie Gearing, our lovely nursery apprentice who has officially completed her Level 2 qualification in Child Development. Well done!

Wishing you all a lovely break,
Emily, Jo and the Little Acorns Team
