Summer Newsletter 2018 (Lower Beeding)

The end of the year is quickly approaching, and we are very sad to be saying “Bye Bye” to our Caterpillar children who will soon be off to school. But before they leave to start school we still have a few exciting events and activities planned for all.

Staffing update

Rebecca has decided to leave A Step Ahead. She will be supporting our Ashington nursery over the next month sharing her ideas and strategies with their team. We wish her all the best in her new role. Sharon is now working in our Ladybird Room.

Ashlee will continue to work in our Ladybird room, sharing new ideas from her training. Martha will also be supporting Ladybird room and Bumblebee Room throughout each week.

Sharon and the team have been working extremely hard to implement new exciting ideas in the room. They have had so much fun researching and creating fun exciting opportunities for all the children to explore and participate in. Sharon and the team will be communicating with you if your child’s key person has changed.

We hope you like our changes and what has been implemented. If you have any questions, please ask the team in Ladybird Room.

As Sharon is now supporting our Ladybird Room, Bumblebee Room will be supported by Georgia the deputy room leader and Debbie our senior practitioner. Georgia and Debbie are working together continuously to ensure the room is stimulated and offering a range of exciting activities developed from the children’s interests. Many of our Bumblebee children will be moving up into our pre-School room very shortly. Please look out for your child’s transition dates.

The Caterpillar team are working very closely with all the local schools to ensure the transitions from pre-school to school are as smooth and easy as possible. Rob and Amy are preparing each child’s school report which will be shared with your child’s school teacher. This will contain information about their current progression and how they are developing.

Caterpillar Room

As school is fast approaching and these last few months are going past very quickly we do ask for all parents to share their child’s last day with us. We do require a months’ notice. Amy has placed a sheet on the door for you to write your child’s last date on.

Free Entitlement Funding

Free entitlement funding only covers 51 weeks of the year. As we are open all year round one week of the year is not be covered by the West Sussex funding. For all children who receive stretched funding the funding will not cover W/C 27th August 2018.

The funding will then start again from W/C 3rd September 2018. For all children who receive funding term time only the end date of the funding will be 20th July 2018 and start again from September 2018. Please contact Ellen if you would like to know any additional information regarding this week.

Parents’ Evening

We will be holding our next parents evening Monday 16th July 610pm – 8pm. It’s a great opportunity for you to meet with your child’s key worker and discuss your child’s learning and progression. Each key person will be based in their room. Each room will display each key person’s available slots for the evening on their parent board. If you would like to meet with your child’s key worker don’t forget to book a slot with them.

Policies and Procedures

Our policies and procedures have now all been updated. A copy can be found outside the office for your reference.

Sports Day – Friday 10th August, 2:30pm – 4pm

As last year was such a success we plan to hold our sports day again in our garden. If you wish to attend, we ask for all parents/carers to attend from 2:30pm onwards. The children’s races will start at 2:45pm and conclude at 3:30pm.

From 3:30pm we will be hosting another raffle to support and raise awareness for Harrison’s Fund. We hope you will join us in supporting this fantastic charity. We would be grateful for any donations for the raffle prizes to help raise as much money as we can.

We will also be holding a cake afternoon in our Bumblebee Room where we will be raising money to support MacMillan Cancer Support. We will have a range of different cakes made by us and the children. Please feel free to stop by and have a look at our selection of yummy cakes.

If you wish to attend, please contact the office. As our occupancy has risen over the last few months we do ask that only 2 members of each child’s family attend.

Thank You!!

Thank you to everyone who came to our parent workshop. It was lovely to catch up with you all and share some great ideas and suggestions. We are also very grateful for the feedback we have received

Our Chicks

Over the last few weeks we have been looking after our chicks. We have watched them crack from their shells and grow very quickly. We were also very lucky to look after an additional 11 chicks which Nat from Fatbottom farm kindly agreed for us to do. As the chicks have grown up very quickly and got quite big they have now been returned to their home farm. They will be returning in around 2 weeks, so we can see how big they have got. We are all very excited to see them again.

By looking after the chicks, we have learnt so much and shared so many great experiences with the children. We hope you have enjoyed this experience as much as we have.

We are looking forward to a great fun packed summer. Thank you for all your continued support.
