Summer Newsletter 2019 (Ashington)

Dear Parent’s and Carers,

Welcome to the summer term newsletter, I would like to say a big thankyou to all the staff and parents for your continuing support.

As I am sure you are all aware Hannah Harber has been successful in her application for Deputy Manager and commenced her new role from 1st April 2019 – Hannah will continue to be based in the twinkles room as room lead, but upon my absence will be designated lead for the nursery, I hope that you will join me in Congratulating Hannah on her new role at Ashington Children’s Nursery.

On Saturday 8th June 2019 the Nursery will be holding its first summer fete. Times and stalls TBC. This is being arranged through our parent representatives and the nursery.

Outdoor clothing

As spring is finally here, the warm weather will soon be to follow can you please make sure that the children have named hats, and named loose fitting clothing in their bags

Next steps

Please be aware that your children’s next steps are currently being completed, we will be now updating them termly. The team will be extending on your children’s next steps where necessary to make sure that the learning is embedded.

Parents Forum

At Ashington Children’s Nursery we have set up a parent’s forum, for you to be able to have your say and to be apart of the nursery community. We currently have 4 parent representatives who are responsible for feeding back any minutes from our 4-6 weekly meetings. What’s going on in the rooms ……?

Twinkle Stars

In Twinkles we are going to be looking at Spring/ summer and planning various activities linking to these topics.

We have currently been looking at Easter and singing song linking to Spring, to embed the learning of spring songs we will also be creating spring song displays. We have been using different types of instruments when singing ranging from from shaky bottles to tambourines.

As the weather is now becoming warmer, we are going to be carrying out more and more outdoors activities and will be looking at how we can link these activities to exploring our senses.

All activities and experiences are planned through the children’s interest’s and help to support and embed the children’s next steps and learning.

Shooting Stars

In shooting stars, we are going to be looking at Summer and holidays during this time, we are going to be looking at changing our role play area into an ice cream van for the children to explore. we will also be creating lots of fun and exciting experiences surrounding these topics.

Within our room we are also going to be looking at diversity and looking at each other and seeing how we have similarities and differences.

All activities and experiences are planned through the children’s interest’s and help to support and embed the children’s next steps and learning.

All – Stars

In All stars we are currently looking at how things grow and will be carrying out various activities relating to this over the summer term.

During this term, We are going to be looking at the very hungry caterpillar, to support this learning we will be looking at caterpillars and how they change and grow ,we will be looking at plants, fruit and veg and what elements they need to help them grow big and strong. We will also be looking at the lifecycle of the chick and will be getting some eggs of our own to hatch. Dates TBC.

Nursery Menu’s

We hope the children are enjoying the food, we welcome any feedback that you or your children may have, self-service at meal times in the pre-school room has been going very well and has given the children a sense of independence as within the Shooting stars room

Menus have been updated for the summer term and will be starting on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

Abbey/Hannah will be emailing these out to you within the next few weeks.

Free entitlement – extended hours

Please remember to update your personal details on your child’s account when you receive your email via parent choices.

All 3 and 4 year old children are currently entitled to up to 15 hours a week of free childcare for 38 weeks of the year (term time) or 11 hours a week for 51 weeks of the year (stretched). From September 2017 this entitlement could go up to 30 hours a week (term time) or 22 hours per week (stretched) for some working families. Here at Ashington Children’s Nursery, we spread the annual entitlement across the full year meaning some families will now be entitled to 22 hours per week (stretched) over the year. Tax free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare is a new scheme which gives eligible families up to £2,000

per child towards childcare costs.

You will be able to open an online childcare account via

www.childcarechoices.gov.uk which for every £8 you pay in, the government

will pay in an extra £2 (up to £2,000).
